Simamkele Mataties
Simamkele Sima Mataties is a South African acoustic drummer, with over. 10 years of musical experience. She started drumming in 2010 and her love for drums started in church and she has never looked back.
Her musical influences are Sinikiwe Mabaso, Sabu Satsha, Calvin Rodges and Chris Coleman, to name a few. She is moved by Indigenous sounds and has performed with Jazz and Gospel, Afro Soul, and Hip-Hop bands in and around South Africa.
She has recorded with Nontsikelelo Hlomela in the album titled “Uncommon Worship”, as well as recording with Minister Harry in the album titled “The Trumpet” and has performed at the National Arts Festival with Mo Jazz & Love Child, where they went on to win a Standing ovation Award. Together with Mo Jazz opened for Zahara at the Summer Festival in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
Sima has worked with various bands in South Africa including Jabu Hlongwne, Puleng March, Lebo Sekgobela and Thembi Mona at the London Roots Festival in 2018 and 2019.
She’s a Music Performance graduate at who studied at Central Johannesburg College & pursuing a career in music performance.
