A.S. “Fana” Zulu
A world renowned Bass Guitarist Fana Zulu was born in Mofolo North. He fell in love with music when he was a kid. At the of seven he built himself a one string bass guitar with an oil tin an a piece of wood. He started learning the real bass at the age of seventeen taught by Cyril Nkosi and Charles Linda. He has worked with Babsy Mlangeni, Sakhile. In 1984 he joined the band and recruited Jabu Khanyile to the band as a drummer. He worked with Bayete for ten years. In 1995 he decided to freelance it where he began recording with artists such as Moses Taiwa Molelekwa, Jimmy Dludlu, Sibongile Khumalo, Themba Mkhize, Mirriam Makeba, Vusi Khumalo, Khaya Mahlangu, Dorothy Masuka and Tsepo Tshola just to name a few. He has toured with Hugh Masekela globally since 1996. He has been a bassist for Hugh Masekela until Hugh left us. Internationally he has worked with artists such as Marion
Meadows, Bob Baldwin and Bebe Winans. He has recently opened a recording studio called Fanatique Records that helps and supports young and upcoming artists with less to no funding to pursue their music careers.
